St Aidan's Church in Thorneyburn, Tarset is located in Falstone with Greystead and Thorneyburn parish. This is in the North Tyne and Redesdale Team churches under Bellingham Deanery in the Diocese of Newcastle of the Church of England. The rector is The Revd Dr Susan Ramsaran. The Church Wardens are Caroline Waitt and Gillian Liddle.
The church was built in 1818 by the Greenwich Hospital Commissioners to provide a living for ex Royal Navy Chaplains after the Napoleonic Wars.
St Aidan's Bicentenary 2018
The church held its bicentenary celebrations over the weekend of 3-5th August 2018:
- Friday 3rd August, Open House at Greystead Old Church
- Saturday 4th August, Parish Garden Party at Thorneyburn Old Rectory
- Saturday 4th August, Talk and Service
- Sunday 5th August, Thanksgiving Service and BBQ
And as usual the church is open all the time. Come and visit the church, see the New Roof, its links to the Navy and Greenwich Commissioners and all its history - who has been married, baptised and buried here, the war memorials, who played or pumped the organ and lots more. Services are held at St Aidan's on the second (at 11am) and fourth Sunday (at 6pm) of each month.
