A defibrillator is located in a locked green cabinet positioned outside Tarset Village Hall. The purchase and installation was jointly funded by The Stephen Carey Fund and Tarset 2050 CIC, and is checked regularly by volunteer "guardians" from the local community.
Defibrillators are used to:
- Assess the heart's rhythms
- Deliver a shock if required
The defibrillator model installed has a switch to change the settings between those for an adult (8 years old and above/25 kg and above) and for a younger/smaller patient. It cannot be used on anyone 1 year old or younger.
The defibrillator is intended to assist sudden cardiac arrest. After initial response, anyone calling 999 will be informed whether the defibrillator is needed and provided with the code to unlock the special cabinet to access the defibrillator.
The Stephen Carey Fund provided awareness training and a refresher on what to do initially when finding a casualty, and an introduction to the defibrillator.

The Stephen Carey Fund will be providing annual refresher training courses in the parish.
