Quiet roads, public bridleways and footpaths, isolated access land, rolling hills, deep forests, babbling burns and wide horizons. The Tarset Valley provides many opportunities for all types of walkers.
Some of most popular walks completely within the Tarset Valley are described in the guide Walks Around Greenhaugh. Sidwood Forest has several marked footpaths including the Reivers Trail. For long-distance walkers the 268 mile Pennine Way borders Tarset, running from the Cheviots in the north and heading towards Hadrian's Wall further south.

Walkers often make a point of including the friendly Holly Bush Inn in their itinerary. People in the community also take part in health walks and walking meditation.
