Tarset is five miles north-west of Bellingham in the Upper North Tyne, Northumberland, England. The closest primary road is the A68.
The market town of Hexham is 25 miles to the south, and the city of Newcastle upon Tyne is 43 miles to the south-east. Due to Tarset's proximity with the national border, the Scottish towns of Jedburgh, Hawick, Kelso, Selkirk and Galashiels are all within 50 miles.
Getting to Tarset
Drivers and cyclists can reach the Tarset Valley from:
- the Bellingham to Kielder Road at Lanehead in the south of the valley
- from the A68 in the north west, either:
- using the B6320 (Bellingham to Otterburn), following signs for Bellingham and then Greenhaugh
- using the single track road via Highgreen, signposted towards the Comb.
Walkers can leave the Pennine Way near Padon Hill and walk down through Highgreen into the valley.
Since the closure of the Border Counties Railway when there was a station in Tarset, the nearest railway station is now Hexham. The closest airport is Newcastle.
